Volkswagen steps into the luxury electric vehicle game with its all-new ID.X performance limousine
Locarno, Switzerland - September 9, 2023: In a momentous event that took place at the ID. Treffen in Locarno on the Swiss side of Lago Maggiore from September 8 to 9, Volkswagen introduced its latest visionary concept car, the ID.X Performance. This exceptional electric sports limousine, presented during this remarkable gathering of EV enthusiasts, is set to redefine the upper mid-sized electric vehicle segment.
The ID.X Performance is a fusion of formidable power and elegant design. This all-electric limousine exudes sportiness both inside and out, making a lasting impression on even the most discerning car enthusiasts.
The exterior is a testament to athleticism, featuring carbon components in the front splitter and rear diffuser. With an 80-millimeter increase in toe and a 60-millimeter reduction in the sports suspension's height, the car exhibits remarkable agility. Riding on 20-inch sports alloy wheels with central locks and size 265 racing tires, it maintains a firm grip on the road. A carbon wing at the rear ensures necessary downforce, while tinted tail light clusters add a touch of sportiness to its overall appearance.
Inside the ID.X Performance, occupants enjoy carbon bucket seats designed for optimal support, even during dynamic driving maneuvers. Red accents throughout the interior underscore the car's sporty pedigree.
Under the hood, the ID.X Performance boasts a dual-motor drive system with an astonishing 411 kW (558 PS) output. Volkswagen has integrated an additional asynchronous motor on the front axle, giving the car all-wheel drive capabilities. This setup offers short-time overload capability and remarkably low drag losses, enabling the vehicle to deliver short bursts of power through a boost function. The drive torque is finely controlled by a Vehicle Dynamics Manager, which also oversees the rear axle differential lock. A separate display with a 17-centimeter screen diagonal in the center console provides intuitive control over these functions.
The dual-motor drive system is powered by a high-capacity drive battery, capable of sustaining high continuous power output and rapid charging with a capacity of up to 200 kW.
Volkswagen unveiled the ID.X Performance at the international ID. Treffen event, which took place in picturesque Locarno from September 8 to 9, 2023. This gathering of electric vehicle enthusiasts on the Swiss side of Lago Maggiore celebrates the growing passion for electric mobility.
Volkswagen's presence at ID. Treffen provided attendees with an exclusive look at the future of electric mobility. Alongside the ID.X Performance, the company showcased other models from the ID. family, allowing visitors to witness the latest developments in electric vehicle technology.
Last year, Volkswagen made waves at the event by unveiling the ID. XTREME and ID. Xcite show cars, setting the stage for the exciting journey toward a sustainable and electrifying automotive future.
Maria Soni Reissfelder, Head of Marketing & Sales Volkswagen ID. Family, expressed her excitement, stating, "Presenting the ID.X Performance in front of ID. enthusiasts from across Europe gave us the chance to meet members of the ID. Drivers Club in person. Andreas Reckewerth and his team of engineers maximized the potential of the MEB in this vehicle, combining sporty performance with the elegant lines of a limousine."
Andreas Reckewerth, Head of Technology Office MEB, added, "The MEB offers many fantastic possibilities for approaching vehicle development with a great deal of creativity. It was clear to us that we wanted to base our new show car on the ID.7 and that we would focus on enhancing the performance. In this way, we could show what is possible."
Volkswagen's ID.X Performance is a testament to the brand's commitment to innovation and sustainability, offering a glimpse into the electrified future of the automotive industry. As the world continues its transition toward sustainable transportation, Volkswagen remains at the forefront, shaping the future of mobility.
